My name is Tim and I live on the Big Island of Hawaii.
For a few years I have been wanting to write a book and title it "The Value of Worth".
The idea of writing a book stems from 12+ years of working as a Youth Pastor at a church in Hilo, Hawaii. At year 7, I had a sliver of realization that the "curriculum" created for youth ministry wasn't as productive as traditionally thought. I made the decision to start the next year of youth ministry without securing curriculum and instead use the Bible (duh!). I was met with an interesting response from the salesman of the curriculum that we had been using, a response that was bitter. Bitter to the point that he would suggest a failure of some sort for our future years of youth ministry since I decided to longer be an annual subscriber. You would think this would be a younger person's response but this was not the case. I hope that in this case, it was the "salesmanship" that got the best of him and not a reflection of his theology to put the curriculum that he represented above the Bible. Anyway, this was the beginning of my eyes being opened to the inefficient method that has been in practice for a long time regarding the hearts and minds of lost souls. To be frank, I now believe Youth Ministry is NOT Biblical. And just for summary sake, I believe the design to teach and nurture the mind of a child about who God is, falls on the shoulders of their father. This is something that I have always felt, even when stepping into youth ministry 12 years ago. The goal was to revamp the youth ministry to be a supplement of what was already happening in the home. But that was not the case, because our human inclination is to "use" the resources at hand. That's great! If it is a afterschool kid's club. Or a DVD dispenser to rent a movie. Or free Mulch at the County facility....Hawaii things.
There is a line to be drawn sometimes and this is one of those times. For the concern of the minds of our children.
"The Value of Worth" is not just for youth. It is for all ages. It is a reflection of my experiences filtered through the Words of Life. The correlation between experiences and How the Creator communicates value by His actions to speak of a forever love for all that is graced with the breath of life. There are no accidents with a sovereign God. There is nothing outside of His control. He communicates with us and says as God "I will come down to you, for your benefit, for your salvation and my Son will be the propitiation for your iniquities".
Everyone enters into a journey. And that journey is to distinguish our value and our worth.
There is One who communicates that we are priceless. Not by just words. But through His actions.
